King James BibleStatement of (Their) Faith.

It goes something like this; The Bible itself is the sole and final source of all that we believe.

But then they say …

Here are a few of those statements. Not every church adds this but it is spreading among the Baptist churches. Below are three examples found on Fundamental Baptist Church Web Sites.

First Example: “The Scriptures shall be interpreted according to their normal grammatical-historical meaning.” “our Statement of Faith accurately represents the teaching of the Bible, and, therefore, is binding on all members.”

CWS – What does this mean “grammatical-historical”? I thought the Bible was of no private interpretation, and that when The Holy Spirit of Truth is come, He will guide us (The Individual Christian) into ALL Truth.

Second Example: “We believe that scriptural giving is one of the fundamentals of the Faith. This grace of giving is manifested by the faithful and systematic giving of our tithes and offerings to the Lord through the local church”.

CWS – If the Bible is YOUR sole authority? Then why does the church (The clergy) make the statement of faith a corporate matter, and binding on all of the members of that church? What if you believe that Giving and not Tithing is correct? Try telling your Pastor that you do not believe tithing is not scriptural. Try it, and see what happens.

Third Example: We believe that the Holy Scriptures—written by men, yet divinely inspired and inerrant in the original manuscripts—are the ultimate source of authority for all matters of faith and personal conduct

CWS – In this statement it appears that this church believes in the inspiration and accuracy of the Scriptures when it comes to the originals. So the question is, who determines what the Scriptures say to men today, the Christian or the church?

Please do not misunderstand this writing. We believe that there are fundamental truths contained in the Holy Scriptures. That those truths and teachings (Salvation by faith, Baptism, Pastors, Deacons, etc.) are binding on all born again believers. We do not support a “Free for All” mentality.

But the main point is the importance of the Individual Believers responsibility to God first. Consider this. if the main body of the congregation does not go out soul winning they are not held to account; but if the main body of the congregation did not tithe the pastor would throw a fit. What is more important, soul winning or giving?

Brothers and Sisters in Christ, no church teaching is binding on any Christian, the teaching of God is binding. You are the Church. They are the Clergy The Bible, KJV is your final authority! What many are trying to do is what the Pope does to the poor Catholics. The Catholic Church says that they will tell their members what the Bible says. We have the Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth.

“There is no doctrine of the Bible, which can be safely, thoroughly, or truly learned without the authoritative Teacher. Tell me not of systems of divinity, of schemes of theology, of infallible commentators, of the most learned people, of the most arrogant doctors, but tell me of the great Teacher who will instruct the sons of God and make us wise to understand all things. The Holy Ghost is the Teacher. It matters not what this or that man says. I rest on no man’s boasting authority, nor should you. You are not to be carried away by the craftiness of men or a sleight of words. The Holy Ghost is resting in the hearts of His children.”
Charles Spurgeon
